Cette peinture est la cinquième d'une série de dix.

Elle est une réaction à une discussion avec un vieil homme qui constatait comme moi une rupture entre les générations, c'est-à-dire un manque d'échange entre "vieux" et jeune. Elle est surtout une réaction au terme dépréciatif "boomer", c'est-à-dire toutes personnes nées après guerre du "baby boom". Générations qui serait selon une partie de la nouvelle, les fautives de tous nos maux, dont essentiellement le réchauffement climatique et la pollution environnementale.

Dans ce tableau, la jeune génération est identifiée par thérianthropie à un dragon qui dévore la tête d'un vieil homme assis ( image empruntée au peintre Ferdinand Holder, dans son oeuvre "vieil homme assis"), portant un costume à la couleur passé et poussiéreux. Les deux personnages sont enfermés dans un triangle invisible qui représente le système pyramidal néolibéraliste dans lequel ils vivent : le réel coupable. Car c'est bien lui qui s'insinue jusque dans nos rapports les plus intimes pour créer les dissensions et donc cette violence dont ils sont tout deux les victimes. C'est en réalité ce même système qui les empêche de travailler ensemble vers un objectif plus vertueux.

Les différents objets qui les entourent, sont des fenêtres vers d'autres toiles passés et futures. Le triangle noir à gauche et un des côtés du triangle invisible et représente un trou qui à l'image des tuyaux détourné d'un super Mario, servira lui aussi de passerelle vers une autre peinture.

Le titre qui contient le titre d'un livre du philosophe stoïcien Sénèque, est encore une fois une fenêtre tournée cette fois sur la réalité et notre monde sensible. Les titres de mes peintures ont tous une prétention d'ouverture sur le monde réel, ainsi que l'ambition de pousser le spectateur à chercher de lui-même sa signification et se cultiver... ou non. "Les lettres à Lucilius" sont cités comme un début de solution à cette rupture intergénérationnelle plus qu'entamée.

This painting is the fifth in a series of ten.

It is a reaction to a discussion with an old man who, like me, saw a rupture between the generations, i.e. a lack of exchange between "old" and young. It is above all a reaction to the depreciative term "boomer", i.e. all people born after the war of the "baby boom". Generations which, according to some of the news, would be the culprits of all our ills, including essentially global warming and environmental pollution.

In this painting, the younger generation is identified by therianthropy with a dragon devouring the head of a seated old man (image borrowed from the painter Ferdinand Holder, in his work "old man sitting"), wearing a dusty, old-fashioned suit. The two figures are enclosed in an invisible triangle which represents the neo-liberalist pyramid system in which they live: the real culprit. For it is the real culprit who insinuates himself into our most intimate relationships to create the dissension and thus the violence of which they are both victims. It is in fact this same system that prevents them from working together towards a more virtuous goal.

The different objects that surround them are windows to other past and future paintings. The black triangle on the left and one of the sides of the invisible triangle represent a hole which, like the diverted pipes of a Super Mario, will also serve as a gateway to another painting.

The title, which contains the title of a book by the Stoic philosopher Seneca, is once again a window, this time on reality and our sensitive world. The titles of my paintings all have a pretension of opening up to the real world, as well as the ambition to push the viewer to search for his own meaning and to cultivate himself... or not. "The Letters to Lucilius" are cited as a beginning of a solution to this intergenerational rupture that has more than begun.
